02/12/2004 Entry: "Happy Darwin Day! / Z ACL update / my first roast!"

Happy last minute Darwin Day! Thanks for letting me know it was a holiday, Rob!

Z's surgery went well. He had a really awful day today, but he's one of those "I'll just rub dirt on it" kind of guys. Luckily he's able to fortify the dirt with Vicodin and Percocet. The hospital hooked him up with a couple of machines for his knee. One of them has a little cooler that I have to keep full of ice, which entails many trips to our apartmentmclubhouse ice machine. It has a cooling pad that keeps his leg from swelling up. The other machine flexes his leg for him. It's set up on the couch. He puts his left leg in it and it straightens it out, then flexes it to whatever angle we tell it to. He's up to 50 degrees, I think. He has to use the flex machine for about 8 hours a day.

Not much else going on here. I'm playing nurse, and happily, Zack is a much better patient these days than he was when he had his appendix out.

Oh, I made my first roast today! It was damn tasty. I only had to consult four friends and a dozen websites to get it right. I honestly think that if I didn't have internet access I would curl up and die. How sad.

you could have called me on the roast. I'm heartbroken, my daughter can't ask for my maternal advise.
