I've been awake since 2:30. I hate it when I can't sleep. I should be soaking in a bubblebath right now, but instead I'm sitting in front of this damn machine again.

I'm reading random blogs. Snob that I am, whenever I find one that is anime-themed I think "booooring," and close it. Anime (aside from the weird porn shite) has to be the lamest trend ever. The first time I ever saw an anime movie was one evening in '95. I was hanging out with my friend Chuck at his ultra-hip studio apartment in Austin. (It was in a creaky old house. You could see the capital building from one of the huge windows. Rawk.) I remember being so frigging bored. Watching cartoon machines sodomize little bug-eyed Asian girls was not my idea of fun, bizarre as it was. I waited until he went to the bathroom and changed the tape to Blue Velvet. Woo.

And now, many years later, you can't escape from the little bug-eyed Asian girls. Damn the luck. There's a scary amount of 13 and 14 year old girls with domains.

Yes Yes what is wrong with anime is that it is a TREND. There are not enough people who I can say actually appreciate it but just go along with it becuase it's just that a TREND. Not to mention it's to styalized. You see one anime character designe you pretty much seen them all. There are of course very few exeptions such as Yoshitaka Amano. You can say the same thing about Disney though. You pretty much can predict how a character will look like when it smiles and such. Not that anime is a bad thing it's still a form of animation and should be considered art. I do watch anime but I would hardly consider myself Otaku. I thought I was a typical fangirl, but once i got to college (Art Institute of PHNX) I saw so many peple drawing in anime style it just jaded me. I still watch anime but I have become very very very picky to what I do watch.

So someone comes along and says this and this sucks and everyone has to run flock and defend their right of free speech or something. Okay Whenever I look at these kind off posts I wonder. Why do people bother with something they hate. I'm an otaku, I dont cuss and flame sites, I get all A's [proof Otaku's are not all stupid] I hate Dragon Ball Z, Spongbob, Invador Zim and alot of those things. People posting their opinion is fine with me. people taking up web space by making a web site to house their OPINION bothers me slightly. And not all people who watch anime are in grade school, or in school at all.
I hope everyone doesn't think that all otakus are flame happy when they see a post or whatnot. -_- Because not everyone is. And your not anti-anime if you don't like it- you're anti-anime if you have a serious problem with it. But have people watched all anime? Who knows, there could be an anime out there they might actually like! The horror...
And, people who complain that anime is porn- only some is. And it's because they (japanese) have different views on this than other people. Like, compare some anime to things like MTV and other tv shows. They use real people, while anime is in 2-D. Hm... I think that the 3-D is more convinsing.

I will agree that some Anime is bad, but some is good too. If you just watch some of the dubbed American versions, like Sailor Moon, DBZ, and Pokemon (which some people don't like at all) you are only taking that little part of Anime into account. There is more Anime out there then what is shown on Amercian TV, and some that are much better than others. I guess being an Otaku myself, and since I have watched so much Anime, you do notice that everyone has their own drawing style. I just want to say something to Mel. She claims that Otaku's are whiney losers with their Anti-Anti-Anime sites, yet then why are you whiney yourself about how bad Anime is? And for Suzie, I do go to school, and I am a good student who gets A's and B's. I think that Anime has a very unique drawing style, and I believe that the drawings have a lot of detail put into them (most of them anyway). I enjoy watching them in Japanese and picking out the words I know. I am taking Japanese in school and I enjoy learning a new language. Also another thing I like about Anime is that in Japan, children are exposed to more "adult" things on TV. Not all Anime is porn, some have a lot about love, wisdom, learning to live in a tough world, that sort of stuff. I am not trying to get anyone here to like Anime, and I think that you have a right to your own opinion, however, I feel quite offened when you say Anime sucks and that people who watch it are lame and stupid. It would be just like if I told you that you are stupid because you DON'T like Anime. If you want to make a site about how Anime is bad or how Anime is good, why not make it in a mature manner? Instead of saying how much it does/doesn't suck and how lame everyone is who does/doesn't watche it, why not just simply state your position in a mature way, why you think it is bad/good, and try not to flame those of different opinions than you. It would be a boring world if everyone liked the same thing. people, i know a lot of you like anime and a lot of you hate it. But the truth is that cartoons and anime have been inspired by one another. Take a look at Dexter's Lab it is was inspired by anime. Then, take a look at all the character designs in anime. Most of these anime character designs are like the classic Disney characters with big expressive eyes. What i am trying to say is that people who like anime should not bash classic american cartoons because in many ways it is better than most anime and it was insparation for some anime. Hell, I like anime such as Akira, Tenchi Muyo, Cowboy Bebop, Dragon ball Z, Gundam, kare Kano and My Neighbor totoro, but I also like Tom and Jerry, Popeye, Top cat, Courage the cowardly dog, Dexter's Lab, Looney toons, simpsons, and Samurai Jack. Ok, i was wrong in generalizing all Otakus and I wont deny you that, but MOST Otakus are still shit headed anime freaks...

I firmly believe that anime is a form of addiction and its not a meager pastime, why?

You people spend money on all sorts of anime paraphernalia and after awhile when it becomes recurring, you buy another 24 episodes and so the cycle goes.

The point is what is the benefit? nothing!, its not feasible to invest consistently on something that is merely entertainment. it will not help you whatsoever, physically and mentally. You only get a moment of gratification that only persists in the mind and by making anime fansites, joining cosplays and anything else on anime. you try to take anime to a crazy form of realism.

Well just an opinion on my standpoint, as much as i would want you Otakus to realize your futility, it would be also futile for me to try since nothing will change anyway.

By the way, im not a 5 year old kid, im a 20 year old, Philosophy Major student, eldest to a brood of seven, I'm studying very hard so my siblings can finish their education, and i encourage them always to study hard and avoid spending their money on things like anime.

And as much as i love my little sister (God bless little Tina), i just promised her that i would buy some blank CDs (priced 20 cents), borrow some fansubs and rip it off.

I would wish that Meia Gisborn was my wife, at least she has some sense in her... :P

Hmm...what would classify someone as being a fanatic (otaku)? I watch DBZ once each day (and have downloaded some of the origonal versions...which are a hell-of-alot better), just because I find the art to be more interesting than anything I hope to achieve myself (speaking of which, all those who like to rant on about how anime sucks, feel free to send me some of your fantastic art...) I think the reason that 3 cel style is used is because it takes so long to draw full-blown characters (not cutsie lil' bastards) esp those that are really detailed...Also, it seems to me that Americans usualy only make Warner Bros or MGM series, or Disney movies, never realistic styled series with more meaningful plots (cat catches stick of dynamite, cat goes boom...leaves alot to be desired after a while) but if they did, sure I'd watch them, but like now, just for entertainment. I respect those who love it or hate it, because I'm not a hard-core fan of anything other than real-life-sex and good food. Before I part, I must know... since when did someones life-style or personal interests become everyone elses buisness, really? It took me about 10 seconds to post this, by the time I am done I will have forgotten all about this great fued and gone on with my life, completely un-affected by anything said in here, I suggest the rest of you do the same.

I honestly don't understand some people. If you're an anime lover, that's dandy. If you're an anime hater, that's fine too. I really don't understand why some many people have such an incredible urge to insult others who don't share their opinion. It's happening on both sides, some say you're an infidel for not liking anime and others say you're a lame for liking it. Let people have their preferences, let people be themselves! Lameness is an the eye of the beholder.
For some strange reason, some people seemed to think there is only black and white, and no gray area. Yes, some anime people can be lames, and yes, some can be the coolest people you ever met. Also, yes, some people who don't like anime can be assholes, but also they can be nicest of people. The point is these are simply PREFERENCES, and these comments on how all anime lovers are lifeless lames and how all anti anime people are judgemental idiots are STEREOTYPES, and like all other stereotypes some people fit the category, and others do not. Futhermore, not all anime and manga are the same, just like how not all cartoons and comics are the same. As for the issue of free speech, people want to belong. So, just like an anime person would wish to go to a specific site and say: " Yeah, I feel that way, too!", an anti anime person would probally wish for the same sense of belonging. Do they not have the right to feel a since of belonging? Yes, they do have the right to do this. However, my only concern about anti sites is how far these do they take people. * sighs * Anyways, yes I like some anime, and yes I like some manga. However, I like cartoons, and also I like some comics. I'm not hoplessly devoted to one form of entertainment, I have a life, I get good grades, and I'm, not a fourteen year old ( not that it really matters ), I'm a young woman with broad intrests. All this anger is unecessary, though. It's not that serious, there are far more important issues in the world than rather or not your neighbor likes your form of entertainment or not.

I like anime. Anime indeed has sex scenes, or something like that, sometimes. But no1 said that anime is for little kids. Most of animes are for elderly, because of the violence and sex int it.

Anime is like a film, it can be like a thriller, action, love, or drama. Anime can be everything; anime means feelins.

Most of the animes are based on yap. legends and myths. And I hate Pockemon, I hate it when people call it anime. ITS INDEED anime, but I hate it, stupid shit. Plot is disgusting, characters are stupid, every episode is like the last one. But its made for little children, and I dont think that they know the difference between a really good anime, or a cartoon.

Wanna know what a really good Anime is? Jin Roh - Its the best anime I have ever seen, it has no sex scenes, but it has a fantastic plot. ( Every anime without a good plot contains sex, otherwise people wouldnt watch it...).

Watch Jin Roh, then talk about anime.

I am an anime fan, just your average 14-year-old guy who hangs out with his friends and watches anime, I also don't spend all of my money on anime. Up until about two weeks ago I've been the evil otaku, but after seeing Spirited Away, I changed, now I pity anti's. Poor people, so much hate . . .
Bottom line is, this movie can probably appeal to even anti's, please guys, just don't do stuff like posting messages that you hate anime on the net. Well thanks to all the anti's in advance. By the way Cyril and all the others, continue to ignore them and we'll win, they'll get tired.

P.S Up until I saw that movie, I was into really gory hardcore animes (still am) with soundtracks that could send you into anime-land, but this movie has made me relize something. You can't spend your life hating. Please everyone go and see this movie, I give it infinity x infinity x infinity (to the square root of infinity) out of 5 stars. It is absolutely the best anime film I have ever seen! After seeing it though, I was briefly a little depressed (spent about a days in my room drawing) because anime wasn't more mainstream in Australia, where I live. Sigh . . .

the way i see it is that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they should be stated as such. i'm an anime fan - i attend conventions, i post anime layouts, i download episodes, but i can honestly say that a lot of it sucks. you can't honestly form an opinion of something so diverse when you've seen so little. it would be like "i hate america because kentucky sucks." it doesn't make any sense that way. maybe you should stop being narrow-minded and accept things for what they are, not what they aren't. maybe they're not your "blue velvet" or your classical sense of entertainment, but it's something that many people enjoy. you should be glad of this, because while all these people with anime domains and anime-based blog layouts are in a clique. perhaps it makes you seem more unique? but that doesn't mean that you should crack on them, either.

i think everyone is entitled to their opinion here. while i don't really like anime; i love manga. i think it's wrong for both sides to so viciously attack the other's opinion...especially since this is a blog; these are opinion based. although i would like to point out one thing: it seems as though anything liked by more than two people is a 'trend'. *laugh* guess we're all just trendy people then! ^-^ i do think it's wrong to close a window just because you see an anime layout though. i intensely dislike jimmy fallon; but i still read the entries. thankfully there was a chris cornell link to distract me from jimmy. hahahahaha.

Cyril, you're very level headed for such a young person. I honestly don't have a problem with people who enjoy anime. I just don't think I have anything in common with most people who are so into anime that they use it for blog or website themes. I didn't just wake up one morning and think "I don't like Japanimation or anime, so I'm going to boycott all sites that feature pictures of such things." I just really don't care about a 14 year old person's perspective on life. I've been there.

as for the idiots who keep trying to spam my journal - hahaha! it must really eat you up that you type up such crazy slander and then try to post it... but only to be rejected by my filters. to such idiots:

Anime is cheap and overrated.
Anime is very crappy. I'm sorry but Most Anime fans I've encounter are very immature. I hate anime because I don't like the content in most of it. The animators spend all that time drawing the characters and they hardly move. I've seen non-Disney films with higher animation quality than any Anime I've ever seen. Sure Akira and Battle Angel are an exceptionally high end but the result is always the same. The Characters are drawn with the utmost visual detail and I don't see any life-like movement from any of them. I hate "Dragonball Z" It is the worst piece of shit. Sorry I hate it. I'm not talking about the clean version. I'm talking about DBZ as a whole mmm kay. The show comes across as being writtten by a perverted 14 year old boy rather than from a mature Manga artist. Here's an example of why anime is cheap.... Have you ever seen an Anime character's face and body recoil smoothly from serene to fearful. Take an episode of SM Usagi sees Kaori at the front door of Hotaru's house. Her reaction is very forced. Notice that she isn't panting and her bottom lip isn't ever so slightly drooping to the ground. Take an American Cartoon like American Tail The reaction
